A morning cuppa: complications of ordering coffee abroad

BaristaShort black … long black … flat white … tall blond … double double … with room … single … filter … Americano … a cuppa!

Have you ever woken up on vacation and let’s face it you are on vacation you absolutely had too much food and drink the night before .. It was a good night .. hell it was a great night. You feel foggy and desperately need that cup of joe. You wipe off the trace makeup (looking like a raccoon- not so cool). You find something to wear and venture out to the streets of your new city for the next few days, looking for the almighty coffee shop. You finally see one and it is like heaven – you can almost hear the angelic hymns of praise in your head.

You walk in confidently and order a ..double double .. The barista looks at you with that unapproving look – she has no idea what you are talking about, you proceed to order a flat white, she still has no idea … I proceed by saying coffee with milk? She is still looking at you unapproving as you ordered coffee in the most uncool way possible.

Since when has ordering coffee become so complicated – and so chic? The international list for ordering coffee is lengthy and is just not intuitive.

The travelers of the world must unite, and compile the list – share the knowledge and pay it forward ..

How do you order coffee when you are on vacation?

Where was your best cuppa?
