Such a raging success in Thailand that they now have half moon parties and all sorts of other events, the Thai Full Moon Party is a beach party that is held every full moon and attended by upwards of 30,000 revellers. It’s featured in movies such as The Beach with Leo, directed by the Scottish dude who won all the awards for Slumdog Millionaire. True story.
Crime has increased in recent years at the monthly event, with lots of robbery and pick-pocketing going on. Also, the local cops have stepped up their presence, and you know the way drugs are criminalized to almost fascist degrees in South East Asia? Well, just be careful then. You’ve been warned. There’s plenty of alcohol, but you really don’t know how strong it’s gonna be. Watered down pee pee or 100 percent proof moonshine (no pun intended on the moonshine)?
The good news is that if you can’t attend a full moon party coz your itinerary hasn’t had the lunar movements factored in, you can go to one of the half moon parties. Just make sure that your Aguilera-esque leather chaps cover one cheek – rather than exposing them both – or you could be sentenced to death. Also, Thailand is that country that is famous for its lady boys, the pre-op and post-op transsexuals who look really shockingly girly. So watch out!
