With Emma back in the UK, preparations for our trip have just gone up a gear. We have spent a fruitful three days brainstorming, and ticked a lot of boxes off our interminable \u201cto do\u201d list.<\/p>\n

Last week, Emma wanted to check what the mileage on Mulungu \u2013 the Defender \u2013 was and decided to fill up the tank\u2026 Little did she know that it has a leak near the brim! The resourcefulness we will need to show during our 4 months journey down Africa shone through, as she siphoned out half of the diesel:<\/p>\n

Luckily, Mulungu \u2013 \u201cWhite Boy\u201d in Zulu \u2013 is booked in for his makeover at the local Land Rover garage this week. We are lucky to have found a vehicle in very good condition, and with the help of the wise team at Strathearn Engineering, we will be ready for a \u201cshakedown\u201d test trip by mid-June.<\/p>\n

The next step is to buy the camping equipment and find clever ways of making a Land Rover habitable for 4 months\u2026 The list of \u201cmust haves\u201d gets longer everyday: king-size mattress, over to bake cakes, a dishwasher, a wardrobe\u2026<\/p>\n
